The annual Christmas Present competition was held on Saturday 19th December. Over 20 hardy souls braved the icy conditions. The ground was rock hard. A pick axe and mallet were required to put tee pegs into the ground. Golf balls flew down the fairways like the Dambusters' bombs.

Elwyn Griffiths provided the laugh of the day when his golf ball went into the pond by the 6th tee. "Went in" is not quite the right description as the ball was in the middle of the pond but sitting on thin ice. Fellow competitors Ian Lockhart and Dave Brayshaw (applying Rule 13-1 of the Rules of Golf) were insistent that Elwyn should play the ball as it lay but Elwyn decided to take a penalty shot. Brings a whole new meaning to the expression "skating on thin ice".

"Santa" Stuart (Kirkham) greeted all the players with mince pies, which were greatly appreciated - thanks Stuart. Peter Healey was the winner of the competition and had the pick of the presents.
